MeMeBear Cares’ 3 on 3 Charity Basketball Tournament–Registering Teams Now

Greetings Advocates, Benefactors and Community Partners,

I would like to invite you to attend the MeMeBear Cares’ 3 on 3 Charity Basketball Tournament on Saturday, January 17, 2015 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm at the Salvation Army–Gymnasium, 525 N. Pennsylvania Avenue, Lansing, Michigan 48912.

If you are interested in registering a Team of 4, please send an e-mail to bballbenefit@hotmail.com including the Team Name and each individual player’s name and age. Within 7 business days, please visit http://www.esthercoalition.org/donate to submit the nonrefundable registration fee of $50 and include the Team Name in the Memo Section. The maximum number of teams for this event is 12. Uniforms and gear bags will be provided to each player.

General Admission is $3.00 per person and $2.00 hotdog or pizza combos will be sold. All proceeds will benefit the MeMeBear Cares Initiative and Strengthening Young Mothers Community Outreach Engagement project.

Parents Seeking to Understand the Impact of the Proposed Changes to Michigan Special Education Rules (MARSE)

Dear Parents, Advocates and Allies,

It is imperative that you provide written comments to the Michigan Department of Education in response to the proposed changes to the MI Special Education Rules. The deadline is March 13th at 5:00 pm for online and mailed comments. You must make sure mailed comments are postmarked by the deadline. Please do not miss your opportunity to provide comments and let your voice be heard!

2013 Brunch Affair: Raising Awareness for Children with Trisomy 18

Come join The Esther Coalition Inc. in raising awareness for Children with Trisomy 18 throughout the State of Michigan. This event will raise funds to match a general operating support grant to further the outreach engagement research and community initiatives for FY 2013 to 2015.

Date: Saturday, March 2, 2013 at 2:00 pm

Please RSVP no later than Friday, February 21, 2013. The suggested donation is $25 per adult; however, generous donations are greatly appreciated and acknowledged with a tax-deductible letter. Children are free of charge to participate in the Brunch Affair.

Roundtable Discussion on Affordable, Handicap Accessible Housing for Single Families who love and care for a Child with Severe Multiple Impairments (SXI)

Greetings Advocates, Benefactors and Community Partners,

We invite you to come learn about the current opportunity to support Single Mothers who love and care for a child with Severe Multiple Impairments (SXI) throughout Michigan on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at 10:00 am to 12:00 pm or 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Technology Innovation Center, The Hatch: Large Conference Room located at 325 E. Grand River Ave, East Lansing, Michigan.

Please come ready to share and learn about the many ways we can advocate for Permanent Supportive Housing and other mutually beneficial supportive services for these Single Families that often become the “invisible population” in our society.

The Esther Coalition, Inc. is a tax exempt 501(c)(3) advocacy and empowerment organization with the sole purpose and passion of educating and empowering young women and children to live holistically. We are launching three new community wide initiatives for FY 2012 to 2015. We will provide advocacy and supportive services under the MemeBear Cares Initiative, Strengthening Young Mothers Initiative and Sista to Sista: Let’s Talk! Initiative.

MeMeBear Cares will provide financial support and advocacy for single parents who care for a child with some range of Trisomy 18 (birth to 18 years old) throughout Michigan.

Strengthening Young Mothers is a new initiative to create permanent supportive housing for single mothers and their child with severe multiple impairment to live in community with supportive services (i.e. coordinated health services, career development & training, transportation).

Sista to Sista: Let’s Talk is a support group for single moms who are experiencing grief/loss from birthing a child with severe multiple impairments or the death of a child, loss of “normal lifestyle”, loss of relationships and/or loss of other aspects of life as a single mom.

To support the FY 2012 to 2015 Community Initiatives, we are accepting applications for the following volunteer opportunities:

  • Assistant to President & CEO
  • Accounting Intern
  • Capacity and Asset Building Intern
  • Event Coordination and Planning Intern
  • Marketing and Public Relations Intern
  • Volunteer Coordinator and Community Organizer Intern

At this time, all these positions are unpaid but will receive performance perks.
